VICTORIA HALF MARATHON

A couple weekends ago, on October 7th, Lorinda and I went to Victoria and ran the half marathon.

The course was beautiful and the crowd support was great; the weather even cooperated by not raining until several minutes after we both crossed the finish line.

I finished within a minute of my recent PR: 1:46:33. I took split times on my watch every time I saw a kilometer marker, which wasn't every kilometer. But my pace was pretty even overall; my average pace was a 5:03 kilometer, which works out to an 8:08 mile:

1 - 5:20
2 -
3 - 9:49
4 -
5 - 9:48
6 - 5:08
7 -
8 -
9 -
10-
11-
12- 30:19
13- 5:16
14-
15- 10:04
16-
17-
18- 15:57
19- 4:46
20-
21- 10:03

I felt pretty good during and after the race. I guess I didn't run that hard because I didn't feel sore, injured, or terribly exhausted after the race. I am trying to find the fine line between going "all out" (and hurting myself in the process) and holding back just enough to be safe (without holding back too much). Every race gives me more experience, more data points to draw from. I'll get it figured out one of these days!

But it was a lot of fun! Lorinda came in a few minutes behind me, and she looked her usual chipper self:

I've decided to run the Seattle Half Marathon in a few weeks, which will be my third consecutive year of running that race. Exactly two years ago, I began this journey. At the two year mark, I've learned a lot -- mostly patience.

My goal for Seattle: 1:40-ish.
