I know I'm in the minority as a person who lives in Seattle and who was actually BORN IN SEATTLE...

But any of y'all who grew up in the northwest in the 60's or 70's will remember a larger than life TV character called JP Patches.

JP Patches was one part Ronald McDonald, one part Curly Howard, and one part Albert Einstein. He was the ultimate goofball, but at the same time a complete genius.

I don't have many early childhood TV memories (Daisy Duke's cutoff jean shorts come to mind, as do John and Ponch on motorcyles...), but JP Patches was definitely a morning ritual for some small but important part of my young life. I remember my brother waking me up early before school to watch JP roll into the city dump on his tricycle...

Anyway, why I am reminiscing?

Well, finally, Seattle is going to honor the man, the myth, and the legend. On Sunday, there will be a ceremony in Fremont to unveil a new statue of JP and his, um, "girlfriend" Gertrude. 1 pm at the Solstice Plaza.

For those of you who are curious to learn more about this JP Patches person, check out his website.

Warning: the first time I clicked on that link, I did not emerge from my home for several days. I was consumed by nostalgia, curiosity, and inspiration.

If you grew up in the northwest, then you probably will be, too.

Meet you in Fremont at 1PM on Sunday?

Sadly, I didn't make it back to town in time to see JP and the unveiling of the statue.
